Website Policy

Policy Name:  Website Governance and Management Policy
Organization: Morongo Basin Narcotics Anonymous Area Service Committee (ASC)
Effective Date: August 8th, 2026

1. Purpose 

The purpose of this policy is to establish standards for the administration, maintenance, security, and content management of the Morongo Basin Narcotics Anonymous Area website. The website exists to support the primary purpose of Narcotics Anonymous: carrying the message of recovery to addicts who still suffer. 

The website shall serve as a public information and communication resource while adhering to the Twelve Traditions, Twelve Concepts, and all applicable laws governing nonprofit organizations. 

2. Website Objectives 

The website shall: 

  • Provide accurate and current meeting information. 
  • Support Area service activities. 
  • Provide resources for newcomers seeking recovery. 
  • Assist professionals and the public in understanding Narcotics Anonymous. 
  • Promote Area events and service opportunities. 
  • Protect the anonymity and privacy of NA members. 

3. Website Oversight 

Website Committee 

The Area Service Committee shall establish a Website Committee or appoint a Webservant responsible for website administration. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Website maintenance and updates. 
  • Security monitoring. 
  • Domain and hosting management. 
  • Content review and publishing. 
  • Compliance with this policy. 

Accountability 

The Website Committee shall report regularly to the Area Service Committee and operate under the authority of the ASC. 

4. Content Management 

Approved Content 

The website may include: 

  • Meeting schedules 
  • Area service information 
  • Event calendars 
  • Committee information 
  • NA-approved recovery resources 
  • Public information materials 
  • Contact information for service positions 

Content Approval 

All content published on the website shall be reviewed and approved by the appropriate trusted servant, committee, or the ASC as determined by local guidelines. 

Accuracy 

Content must be: 

  • Current 
  • Accurate 
  • Relevant to NA services 
  • Consistent with NA principles 

Outdated information should be removed or updated promptly. 

5. Anonymity and Privacy 

The website shall uphold the Eleventh and Twelfth Traditions of Narcotics Anonymous. 

Personal Information 

The website shall not publish: 

  • Full names of members without written consent 
  • Home addresses 
  • Personal phone numbers without permission 
  • Personal email addresses without permission 
  • Recovery histories or personal stories without authorization 

Public Visibility 

Members should be informed that information posted on the website may be publicly accessible through internet search engines. 

6. Copyright and Intellectual Property 

The website shall respect all copyright laws and intellectual property rights. 

Permitted Materials 

The website may publish: 

  • Area-created content 
  • Materials authorized by NA service bodies 
  • Content for which permission has been obtained 

Prohibited Materials 

The website shall not publish: 

  • Copyrighted materials without authorization 
  • Unauthorized logos or trademarks

7. Website Security 

Security Standards 

The Website Committee shall implement reasonable security measures including:

Administrative access shall be limited to authorized trusted servants approved by the ASC. 

Access credentials shall be:

Social Media 

Any official Area social media accounts shall: 

  • Follow NA traditions 
  • Protect member anonymity 
  • Avoid endorsing outside enterprises 
  • Operate under ASC oversight 

9. Online Donations and Financial Information 

If the website accepts donations: 

  • Donation processes must comply with nonprofit regulations. 
  • Financial transaction services shall use secure payment processors. 
  • Donor information shall remain confidential. 
  • Financial records shall be retained according to ASC and legal requirements. 

10. Prohibited Content 

The website shall not contain:

The Website Committee shall maintain records of:

  • Administrative access assignments 
  • Security incidents 
  • Website expenses 
  • Backup schedules 

Records shall be transferred to succeeding trusted servants during transitions. 

13. Incident Response 

In the event of: 

  • Security breaches 
  • Unauthorized access 
  • Data disclosure 
  • Defacement of the website 

The Website Committee shall: 

  1. Secure affected systems. 
  2. Notify the ASC. 
  3. Document the incident. 
  4. Restore services as safely and quickly as possible. 
  5. Review and improve security measures. 

14. Review and Compliance 

This policy shall be reviewed annually by the Area Service Committee. 

Any exceptions to this policy must be approved by the ASC through the group conscience process and documented in meeting minutes.
